What You Should Arm Teachers With: A Gun Violence Study Curriculum | Building Background Knowledge

The website, Public Books, founded in 2012 by professors Sharon Marcus, a literary critic from Columbia University in New York, and Caitlin Zaloom, an anthropologist from New York University, has published a well- planned 13 week unit on gun violence available for all to read and use.

If you are a teacher or a researchers this is an invaluable resource.

It covers a lot of ground - from the 2nd Amendment, to Slave Codes enacted during Reconstruction, Civil Rights, the emergence of the gun debate during the late 20th century including the NRA’s “good guy with gun” mantra, gun violence as a public health crisis, and the direct relationship the gun manufacturing industry has with this country’s gun violence crisis.
